INSTRUCTIONS:

Steps:

  • Clean the Cutting Board:
    • Wash the cutting board with warm, soapy water to remove any residue, food particles, or oils.
    • Rinse thoroughly and dry it completely. Ensure the board is free of moisture before applying wax to avoid trapping water in the wood.
  • Prepare the Wax:
    • If the wax is cold and solid, warm it slightly to make it easier to apply (optional). You can do this by letting it sit in a warm place or rubbing it vigorously to soften.
    • Cutting Board Wax can be applied directly without warming, as the friction of applying it will warm it up enough to spread.
  • Apply the Wax:
    • Using a clean, dry cloth, scoop a small amount of wax and rub it onto the cutting board in circular motions.
    • Work the wax into the wood, paying attention to any cracks, edges, and corners.
    • If you're using a soft-bristled brush or sponge, apply the wax evenly across the surface.
  • Let It Absorb:
    • Allow the wax to sit on the board for at least 15-30 minutes or overnight for deeper absorption. This lets the wood soak in the wax and gain a protective barrier.
  • Buff the Surface:
    • After the wax has absorbed, use a clean cloth to buff the surface in circular motions.
    • Remove any excess wax, leaving a smooth, non-greasy finish.
  • Repeat as Needed:
    • For heavily used boards, consider reapplying wax every 3-4 weeks. For less frequent use, once every 2-3 months is sufficient.

Tips:

  • Combine waxing with regular oiling (e.g., food-grade mineral oil) for better results. Oil can penetrate deeper into the wood and should be used prior to applying wax. As a top-coat after an application of oil, the wax seals and protects the surface.
  • Store the cutting board in a dry place, avoiding prolonged exposure to moisture or direct sunlight.
  • Avoid using harsh detergents or soaking the board in water, as this can dry out the wood and cause warping.
