Applying Pure Tung Oil is a simple but methodical process that ensures a smooth, durable, and water-resistant finish for your woodworking projects. It may take more time and effort than synthetic finishes, but the result is a beautiful, long-lasting natural finish that highlights the wood's grain. Here's a detailed, step-by-step guide to help you apply Tung Oil for the best results:

Materials Needed:

• Pure Tung Oil (e.g., KingsFleet Pure Tung Oil)
• Lint-free cloths or applicator pads (such as a brush or rag)
• Tack cloth or cheesecloth (for dust removal)
• Rubber gloves (for protection)
• Sandpaper (optional, for surface preparation)
• Mineral spirits (optional, for thinning the oil)
• Plastic sheet or drop cloth (to protect surrounding areas)
• Fine steel wool (optional, for buffing between coats)

Preparation:

• Select a Clean, Dry Work Area
• Ensure your work area is clean, dry, and well-ventilated. Tung Oil can have a strong odor during application and drying, so proper ventilation is key. Lay down a drop cloth or plastic sheet to protect your workspace from spills and stains.
• Prepare the Wood Surface
  • Sanding: If the wood surface is not already smooth, lightly sand it to remove rough patches. Begin with medium-grit sandpaper (120-grit) and finish with fine-grit sandpaper (220-grit) for a smooth finish. Sand in the direction of the wood grain.
